  3. I’ve been a sucker for chipmunks ever since my childhood when I fed them peanuts at a little tourist stop in the mountains near here. Hantavirus and new thinking about feeding wildlife changed all that.

    1. What a fun memory to have. Yes, Hantavirus is a serious concern! I recently purchased a feeding platform so that it can be placed out of their reach. Of course I needed a baffle too, but thank goodness I already had one of those.
      Now only the bluejays, cardinals, woodpeckers and a few smaller birds get the peanuts. I’ve even stopped putting out birdseed, so that there’s nothing for the chippers and mice to get.
