Hello from Rufous!

Beautiful Rufus 2 wm's resized DSC_2002

I think this is a Rufous Hummingbird, but I may be mistaken. This little beauty loves nectar that is made up of a concoction of sugar and water. I use 1 cup of sugar to 4 cups of water, I bring it to a boil and then let it cool. The sugar needs to be completely dissolved, I imagine that with such a tiny throat, chunky nectar doesn’t go down all that well.

I normally don’t like cropping an image so drastically, but I wanted to show you his beautiful copper feathers. Like so many other birds, I marvel at the creation of such beautiful, magical creatures.

        1. Thanks for the link. It’s really odd, the dark green of the one that comes here is so different from the two shown. The mystery continues.

  1. He has similarities to the rufous hummingbirds in the I.D. pages, but the dark head and light belly are so sharply marked that it makes me wonder. It’s the closest thing I could find in the bird ID page, too, but still it doesn’t match perfectly. It’s a mystery….
