HELLO, MY NAME IS SUZANNE AND I’M A HEAT WIMP.

3565 There has to be fish in here somewhere (39 of 1)

DOES THIS NOT LOOK REFRESHING?

SURPRISE! RIGHT NOW IN FLORIDA, AT LEAST WHERE I WAS, THE WATER WAS ALMOST HOT!

I SPENT ALMOST ALL OF MY TIME HIDING INSIDE WITH THE AIR-CONDITIONER ON AND EVERY TIME I HAD TO VENTURE OUTSIDE, UPON STEPPING BACK INTO THAT WONDERFUL COLD AIR, I GAVE THANKS TO “THE FATHER OF AIR CONDITIONING”, WILLIS CARRIER.

I HAVE TURNED INTO A “HEAT WIMP”, PERHAPS I ALWAYS HAVE BEEN.

WHEN I WAS, I THINK, A TEENAGER, MY PARENTS TOOK US TO WASHINGTON D.C. MY ONLY MEMORY OF THAT TRIP WAS OF STANDING IN LINE ON THE SIDEWALK OUTSIDE OF THE WHITEHOUSE AND NEARLY PASSING OUT FROM THE HEAT.

I HAVE PURCHASED THE WONDERFUL CLOTHS AND A HAT THAT YOU CAN SOAK WITH COLD WATER AND THEN WEAR…THEY ARE LIFESAVERS! IF ONLY I COULD REMEMBER TO USE THEM.

I WISH THAT MR. CARRIER WAS HERE AND STILL INVENTING. I WOULD HAVE HIM INSTALL A SPRINKLER SYSTEM IN MY HEAD.

  1. Clothes designed for a pre-drench before application?? I must seek these out. I, too, am a mewling heat wimp- and I go hiking out in it in the middle of the day (in Florida)- madness…I usually end up covered in swamp, which is a bit cooling, and slurp a lot of ice-water. I must try this dank-clothes option next. Lovely image. I often swim to where the pelicans dive to see if I can catch a glimpse of a shark. All the best, and may cool days be soon upon you,

    1. So nice to meet another fellow sufferer. 🙂
Air conditioning makes it possible for me to live where I do…without it I would be driven mad by my allergies to the trees in our woods.

  2. I livein Florida and we are gearing for the worst months for heat: August and September. Nothing like opening your front door only to be stifled by a blast of heat that could almost choke you. I need my A/C!

    1. I was in Florida a week ago….soooooo hot! I can’t imagine it getting worse. I spent four hours outside today digging up and transplanting flowers, because a heat wave is on the wave for next week. I’m not budging from the A/C when it gets here!

  3. I am also a heat wimp. Recently, I’ve become a cold wimp too. I think I should move to an island in the Caribbean. Sit under a palm tree drinking something tall and cold, that contains an umbrella.

  4. Yes, I couldn’t survive here without the air con. My new neighbour from Atlanta was complaining that he can’t get cold water out of the cold tap, and that his pool is always warm and not at all refreshing. Love your photo of the birds taking a dip. 🙂

    1. OH DEAR LORD…your neighbor lived in “Hot-Lanta”? There’s another place that tries to kill a person with heat. Your neighbor will be happier in winter.

  5. Oh me too. Heat avoider. I have enough hot flashes inside my air conditioned house to feel all the heat I need. We spent a week in my mother’s NC lake house and nearly boiled in the hot water. Mid day water. The morning was a bit less uncomfortable. But, water is water and I can’t resist. I pretended I was a lobster in a pot that only got half-way to boiling and claimed it sweet relief.

  6. Well, we may both love chocolate but we certainly differ on our views of air conditioning :). I hate air conditioning and rarely even use it in my car. I love hot weather!! I could do without the extreme humidity that we get here, but I’ll still take it over snow any day!!

    1. I’m not a snow fan necessarily, or a fan of the extreme cold…give me FALL! Year ’round FALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And by the way, I have considered you a sister, but now that I know your feelings on air conditioning and heat, I realize that we cannot be related. I am sad.

  7. I don’t like extreme heat either. I suppose we’re lucky to only have a couple of weeks of heat wave in the summer and even then, it’s not humid as I understand it can be in Florida. But this is why Florida has such lush vegetation and so much swamp life. Great for the fish and the birds to have all those insects to eat.

    1. I WISH we only had a few weeks of heat…I don’t live in Florida…the midwest…and it’s months and months of heat and humidity. Next year, someplace cool for a vacation in the summer!
