REMEMBER THE MAMA RACCOON WHO MOVED HER BABIES BACK AND FORTH, BACK AND FORTH?
THIS IS THE VERY SAME GAL…
IT’S NOT REAL COMMON FOR A RACCOON TO BE OUT AND ABOUT IN THE DAYTIME, BUT WHEN YOU HAVE LOTS OF LITTLE MOUTHS TO FEED, YOU DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO.
FOR THE LONGEST TIME, MAMA RACCOON DIDN’T SEEM TO KNOW THAT I WAS SITTING A MERE TEN FEET AWAY FROM HER. AFTER A BIT, SHE BECAME SUSPICIOUS THAT ALL WAS NOT RIGHT WITH THE WOODS.
SHE WOULD LIFT HER HEAD AND SMELL MY SCENT, MOVING VERY SLOWLY ALONG THE EDGE OF THE WOODS…SHE WAS BEING EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS.
IN THE SECOND IMAGE YOU HAVE THE MOMENT WHEN SHE REALIZED THAT SHE WAS NOT ALONE. I WONDER HOW GOOD THEIR EYESIGHT ACTUALLY IS IN THE DAYTIME, CONSIDERING THAT THEY ARE A NOCTURNAL ANIMAL.
I WAS VERY SURPRISED WHEN SHE DIDN’T SCAMPER BACK TO HER LITTLE HOME UNDER THE DECK, BUT INSTEAD PROCEEDED TO MOVE TOWARD THE BIRDSEED AND CORN.
I DIDN’T MOVE ANYWHERE … I HAVE NO DESIRE TO SEEM LIKE A THREAT TO A MAMA RACCOON. THAT WOULDN’T BE IN ANYBODY’S BEST INTEREST! BESIDES, I HAVE GROWN QUITE FOND OF HAVING MY SKIN ATTACHED TO MY BODY.
Fortunately she didn’t smell your chocolate stash.

I’ve encountered quite a few raccoons during the day. I don’t think they are entirely nocturnal. More like our bobcats who are afternoon and evening animals. Similar to my husband.

It would be nice to think that she doesn’t consider me a danger to her…

So cute, as long as they aren’t gripping my chickens or my throat.

I think that might just have been what she was thinking! I try to talk to her from the window once in a while and she doesn’t run away…usually.

Is it a Chanel cologne, Suzanne? I haven’t come across that particular product and I’m on the look-out for a birthday present for my wife.
