DISCOVERY OF THE RACCOON NEST…

LOOK WAY UP HIGH, CAN YOU FIND THE LITTLE HOLE IN THE TREE?
I HEARD A LOT OF LITTLE CHATTERING COMING OUT OF THIS TREE WHILE I WAS WORKING IN THE WOODS…LOOK WAY UP HIGH, CAN YOU FIND THE LITTLE HOLE IN THE TREE? THAT’S WHERE THE CHATTERING WAS COMING FROM. BABIES!!
LOOKS LIKE THERE'S NOT ENOUGH ROOM IN THE NEST…THAT LEG IS ALWAYS STICKING OUT OF THE TREE...
SEE THAT FOOT AND THE FURRY LEG..THAT BELONGS TO MAMA RACCOON…LOOKS LIKE THERE’S NOT ENOUGH ROOM IN THE NEST…THAT LEG IS ALWAYS STICKING OUT OF THE TREE…
MAY AS WELL DO A LITTLE STRETCHING WHILE I'M STUCK IN HERE LOOKING AFTER THE KIDS.

    1. I walked the dog first thing and she’s still there. I wish I had time to keep an eye on her this morning, but it will have to wait until later today. I can’t believe that she’s not worried..the sound of chainsaws are everywhere….I was told that whatever department would do it, is clearing the land under the power lines…because the trees had gotten so tall, the woods so thick, etc. that it was a threat to the lines…I don’t know if that’s the case, but what I saw yesterday was heart wrenching…sickening….I will post some pictures next week…but if my property backed up to this, I would…I don’t know….I’m sure there are many, many, many distraught homeowners…their beautiful woods…all GONE. I think of all the displaced creatures, big and small and It’s just heartbreaking.

      1. When the power lines were erected, steps to ensure no tree growth should have been taken…. to do it now after nature has rejuvenated itself is criminal… I’m with you on this it is devastating for so many small creatures and even insects we can’t see… terrible…

        1. I had to be away for a few hours and drove by where they’re working on the way home….just sad…I’ll still try to get a few pictures later.

    1. 🙂 They usually do bring them around once their born…and they all snarl and shriek at each other…I wouldn’t have if they weren’t all clamoring for attention.

        1. I hope I can get the timing right…she might move them in the middle of the night and then all I’ll have left is an empty “nursery”…

  1. A few years ago, I walked by a tree in the woods behind us with a hole like that at about waist level. I leaned over to look in. Surprise!!! There was momma and babies all wadded into a ball of fur, feet, and tails. She gave me the evil eye. I quickly retreated. Do NOT mess with a momma raccoon.

    1. What a scary surprise you got….don’t worry, everybody in this house knows not to mess with any raccoon…we even make sure not to walk on our deck with bare feet..they carry some NASTY diseases, etc.

        1. As you can see..interesting bark situation going on…I had a picture of “Bob” hiding behind a hickory tree once…

    1. I’ve learned to stop and really, really, really look. Quite the opposite of how I am with so many other things in my life.
