Well…we did it! I loaded the car up with all of the animals…and headed south. Many, many hours and potty breaks later, we made it to Nashville…spending money buying treats from the vending machines at the rest stops for everybody to keep them happy is expensive!
I checked into the cool hotel and got everybody through the lobby and into the elevator…getting all of us into a glass elevator was fun and scary….I think there might be some smudgy spots on the glass…Bob and Joe kept putting their mouths up against it and breathing hard.
In all seriousness… It was really interesting…I had to check in the next morning and get an I.D. badge and then found out who would be interviewing me…the entire floor of the hotel that our room was on was used for the interviews…there were SO many people! I even met a fellow whose son is looking for someone to write the book he wants to illustrate!
I had no idea that this would be such a big deal and I found out that I wasn’t the only nervous human there! Long story short…I had my interview….we discussed the books and then started talking about Mama and the boys and horses and animals in general and it was a great meeting. I was given a business card…told to send an email to the interviewer and he would give me the secret information on who to contact and work with next! We still have a way to go…a few more hurdles…but we’re just happy to have made it over the second hurdle!
Wonderful! I’m glad you were all able to make the trip together. A long drive can really suck if you don’t have good company.

Bob was being groomed that day so I collected enough of his hair to make my own braid! It hangs in my studio 🙂

I need to teach you my frugal (some say mean!) Scottish Presbyterian ways. I rarely buy tea or coffee when I’m out but take a flask instead. If going for a few days I take a small camping stove and heat up some food bought in a supermarket.
The British Army Crusader stoves are good as they burn leaves, small sticks, alcohol gel and solid fuel tablets. Combined with the metal kidney-shaped cups to use as pots they make a great cooking set, if a little slow. You never run out of fuel like you do with a gas or meths stove.

Take some teabags or coffee and either buy milk of take powdered milk with you and you can buy these Swedish Army folding cups which hold about a mug of tea.
Next week we are going to Edinburgh for the day to watch some acts at the Festival. I’ll be taking my food and drink with me as the prices seem to rise at this time of year in Edinburgh.

Wow, how exciting! And I hope there were no ‘accidents’ in the elevator. (I try to avoid doing that whenever going for an interview 😉 )
Gorgeous photos! I KNOW you’ll ace the next hurdle!

It’s a good start. Hope all goes well for you. Next time you’d better take along some Windex and a rag for the elevator walls.
