THE ROOSTER’S GOING TO GET IT…
Someone in the neighboring woods apparently has a new pet…a rooster…
I kid you not…every day…most of the day, I hear a rooster crowing.
The daily, lyrical call of “ER-ER-ER-ER-ER!!”…has been going on for about
a week.
I just want you to know that I have only experienced this “lullaby” once before
in my life….Hubby and I took a long, scenic, nightmare drive down to Key West,
Florida several years ago…ask him, just ask him, how much he LOVED that
drive….I am not a good passenger when you travel at 10 miles an hour for
a day and a half…well really only about two hours….when you go down to
Key West, and you drive…there’s one way in, and one way out.
Having endured stop and go traffic FOREVER, it was a joy to find out that
the cause of the slow down was something really important…like trimming
palm trees…I could have screamed. (I think hubby was screaming silently).
Having reached our destination, then enjoying a stroll during which hubby’s
phone rang constantly with work “crisis”….we were so thrilled and in love
that we could barely keep from driving a dagger into each other’s backs..
( Just kidding………..possibly)…After a late dinner, we returned to our host’s
home wanting nothing more than to collapse, hysterical and in tears, in
exhaustion on the comfy futon mattress…(“kill me now” kept running through
my head…but things were about to get better!)
I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to fall asleep, because our host likes to
keep the door to her patio open all night…do not ask me why…I have no
idea…but I fully expected some lost drunken soul to stumble through the
door and collapse on top of us, as we were only six feet from the open door
and one block away from a very..”interesting” night club.
Finally I convinced myself that this wasn’t going to happen…and that’s when
it started…a rooster walked up, stood outside the door and began to sing
it’s lullaby…”ER-ER-ER-ER-ER”…hubby thinks it sounds more like
“Happy Birthday to you”, but I disagree. The home of the late, great, writer
Earnest Hemingway was right across the street…If any ghosts reside there,
I’m sure they were having a fit, how can you make enough noise to scare
people when a rooster is drowning out any spooky sounds you might
come up with ……the rooster “sang”….all…night…long.
Sorry for the trip down memory lane, but every time I hear our new
neighbor, the rooster, I think of this…
I don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep TONIGHT…this time because I’m curious
as to whether I’ll be hearing any more rooster “music”……
TROUBLE came out of the woods, passed through the yard, and
headed in the direction of “El Rooster”……..
The Coyote has returned…if that rooster has any brains at all….
he’ll learn sign language..
