Cardinals

IT’S NOT FAIR, WE ALREADY DID CARDINALS…

Because the weather can’t make up it’s mind what to do…I will be contrary and post another image of a cardinal in the rain….no rhyme or reason to anything that I’m going to post lately, but has there ever been?

I think they want to know where spring is….

HOSTILITY…

I don’t know if it’s the heat…or  two visitors who just felt cranky…

but I’m keeping the “window into the woods” locked up tight.

I have to admit, the Blue Jay kind of reminds me of myself working

my way through a bowl of popcorn….Popcorn….I’m off to find some

popcorn…I may even melt some chocolate on top of it…I’m starting

to feel cranky…

THERE’D BETTER BE SOME CHOCOLATE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS BOWL,
OR I’M GOING TO FLY RIGHT OVER THERE AND PECK A HOLE IN YOUR FLOO-DA-LOO-DAL…

EXCUSE ME, …..EXCUSE ME!….COULD YOU PLEASE TELL THAT BLUE JAY TO SHARE???   I’D ASK HIM MYSELF, BUT I’M VERY FOND OF MY FLOO-DA-LOO-DAL…AND I’D LIKE TO KEEP IT ALL IN ONE PIECE.

TODAY IT WAS HOT…..

Today was a day, just like oh so many days we’ve had this spring…HOT HOT HOT!!

We’re in a terrible drought…trees dropping their leaves like it’s fall, lakes

dropping to very low levels..

I don’t know what the temp was today,,somewhere in the nineties again….

so today it was time to take action…or as much as we can take action…some

areas of town have watering restrictions…we are on a well, so it’s our call.

I watched the squirrels this morning and the hotter it gets, the more they use

their tails as little sun umbrellas to keep cool….the hotter it gets, the lower

their tails get over their heads…

Late this afternoon I saw something that just broke my heart….

Two robins who were obviously over heated….the longer I watched them sit with

their beaks open…to help cool them….the more they started to lean over toward

the ground…they seemed to be really close to….I don’t know…collapse?, death?

They were holding back, watching the squirrels in the bird baths, not daring to

come too close to them…but you could tell they really wanted to get to the water..

I found any somewhat flat container that I could and filled it with water…then hubby

came home and turned on the lawn sprinkler…he’s my hero…within a short time, there

was a female cardinal simply sitting in the gentle spray and not too long after, the

robins found the water….tomorrow I buy ANOTHER bird bath !!

So here are a few images that did my heart good…even just the spray of the water

was beautiful..

ROCKET RED…

I love this little visitor that came today….so glad that I could get a good

shot of his beautiful eye……they are so shy that it’s hard to capture an

image sometimes.

I called this Rocket Red, because they remind me of a rocket zooming

erratically through the air…..and red of course for their gorgeous,

glorious red color.

Red Rocket, Red Rocket

You’re here then you’re there

Streaking red, flashing brilliance

You dance through the air…

Do you know when we watch you

That you’re a spectacular part

Of this great world of beauty

That gives wings to our heart?

THIS LITTLE GUY HAD NO PROBLEM JUMPING
all rights reserved

The birds were crazy for peanuts today, and they were impatient with
each other at times. I’ve never seen them actually grab seeds and nuts
out of the pot at the same time before..
You’ll also see an image of a Blue Jay hopping into the air on this
post today…He was SO mad that I was snapping shots…seriously,
he looked right at me and continued to jump up and down for about a
minute. Just hopping wasn’t enough, he was screaming at me also.

The Cardinal got worked up when he caught sight of his own reflection in
the window..(it’s actually reflected TWICE!) Glad he gave up on that
pretty quickly, sometimes they carry on about the “intruder” for
months.

A woodpecker came to call, to my surprise. They usually are very
nervous and leave when other birds approach, but he held his
ground today.

The squirrel was hilarious! He spent about forty-five minutes leaping
up, grabbing a peanut and then racing off to the woods to hide it.
He also spent a fair amount of time chasing another squirrel who
was apparently closer to the food than a quarter mile and this
posed a BIG problem for him..very territorial.

It was a little upsetting today. To my surprise a landscape fellow
showed up and was spraying stuff on the lawn to inhibit crab grass
growth! I spent an hour hosing the stuff off of the grass so none
of the birds or squirrels would ingest the nasty chemicals.

I felt so badly for one little squirrel today. He must have fallen
out of a tree! His right front foot must be broken…he wasn’t able
to get up to the feeder for the peanuts, couldn’t trust that paw
to grab hold..so after I sprayed off the grass, I moved the
feeder right up against the branches so that it can just walk right
up and have a seat.

Well, you may be wondering why I called this post…”your flight
is cancelled”. Today you are only getting images of “the flight
crew”, the Blue Jays, grounded. No take offs, no landings, just
sitting on the tarmac talking about what they’re going to have
for lunch.

RED………….SORRY NO SQUIRREL SIGHTINGS TODAY….SO….JUST RED

Blarg……………no squirrel sightings today…although I have been hearing rumors that
the next installment of the squirrel-o-mentary should be ready within a week!!

We’ve been so bored that we’ve been discussing favorite colors…mine is red……….so……
here’s some red……………sorry I think my brain is fried after the last two days of
chocolate fueled blogging….can you believe that I’ve actually had people suggesting
that I might need to be hospitalized for observation ?!?? I admit I have my
fascinating moments, such as trying to explain how I managed to tape my hands together
while using mailing tape…but hospitalization?, you go to far!!

So…on with the red…my feeling are hurt and I must go lick my wounds.

FROM THE RIDICULOUS TO THE SUBLIME

Alright first off, here is my bald-headed little buddy……looks like a hunting
accident to me. Or as I said before, male pattern baldness. So for those of you
who have to slow down to stare at traffic accidents..take one quick look and then
look away!

And for those of you who just loved “The Flight Crew”, here they are with
a few of their friends.Yes, these images were all taken within a few days
of each other. Welcome to our wacky weather!

So after a day of burying you all under a mountain of posts….I’m going to
shut up for awhile and give you a break.

Can anyone knit a teeny tiny hat?

This is an all you can eat buffet, right?

Gotcha!

He forgot to wear red!

Red

Look, he's leaving. No one will notice if we do too!
