HOW COULD I HAVE FORGOTTEN….
In my post about Reba, I forgot to mention something VERY, VERY important….she saved my daughter-in-law’s life this summer….She and Reba had gone hiking and they heard a noise at Jess’s feet….rattlesnake…before Jess could move, Reba attacked the snake and in the end was bitten twice. Jess carried her down the mountain and stayed by her side until she recovered…miraculous recovery actually, because Reba swelled up head to tail…and it was a hard fight to live…..was she there to protect Jess and now her job is done? I’ll never know, but always consider her a hero.

Zanny this is such a heart-wrenching story. RIP Reba x

You summed it up very well

I’m impressed that Reba survived the snake bite.. hemotoxic venom is not easily overcome by dogs and smaller pets… so that is a miracle in itself… but to protect her owner is something more than special.. one does not find that often that dogs have saved humans.. yes warned them of things but not saved them… so Reba is indeed a special dog who will be missed by all who knew her .. of that I’m sure… so I send you another Cyber HUG a big one to help you get over the loss….

Thank you Rob……The Cyber HUG is really, really appreciated…..tomorrow I will post some pictures of birds, and move forward….took the wind out of my sails, and feel adrift….so….

What a special puppy dog!! How many animals actually do something incredible like that during their lifetimes? Not many, I’m sure!!

Nope..only a few are chosen to be Heroes!
March 19, 2013 at 1:51 am
That is something she will always be remembered by!
How ironic to survive the results of her heroism, and then become victim to a car. It has some of the anticlimax of Lawrence of Arabia’s motorcycle accident to it.

So very true.

Well that just made Reba – an already special lady – even MORE special. The loss is that much more profound. More hugs your way………

This was in Montana? What a hero that dog is.
March 18, 2013 at 8:57 pm
Yes, that was in Montana…..My daughter-in-law showed me where it happened when I was out visiting them and it had to have been just a nightmare…a long way down carrying a dog bitten by a rattlesnake….

It’s something we worry about when we got there in the fall.
