I want to say THANK YOU for the words of encouragement and the emails and comments with suggestions on how to combat the spam…
I was almost afraid to open the site this morning and lo and behold!…..NO SPAM!!!!!!!
You have no idea what a relief it was to find zero, zip, nada!!!! I had the controls set so that I had to approve comments, so that was at least preventing the spam from getting onto the posts, but as I said, I was still getting a TON !!!
I tried two things that were recommended to me…..I changed the “close comments after a certain period of time” thingy, to 21 days…and there may have been a problem because I was marking things as spam and then deleting them…possibly not allowing enough time for akismet to recognize them as spam???…I don’t know…but something seems to be working…..so again….THANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
Happy Birthday! I have just been letting that spam sit there – I’m afraid to delete it, but so far it’s working for me too!

I had a some spam this morning…not too much,,not like before…but I’m not getting posts that I follow and now it’s not telling me when I have comments…something is really messed up and getting worse…sigh….I’ll just hang in and see what happens.

I think you’re right…..I’m just having too many problems…tonight, it wouldn’t take my password when I tried to sign in, and when I tried to ask for a check on my password, it said I had been “banned” ???????…but then 15 minutes later it let me sign in….just crazy…hope they get this all straightened out!

Lucky you didn’t wait too long to have that birthday. Some unlucky people waited till the 29th in a leap year and then ended up being only four and a half years old when they graduated. Happy birthday tomorrow, and thanks for not shutting us out.

I couldn’t get to your site again until today as my browser kept marking it as ‘suspicious’ so I don’t know if there was a problem. As I said I use wordpress.com and limit past comment to 2 weeks and nothing gets by Akismet. I have gotten spam comments even on my breast cancer posts which is disgusting. It seems to come and go as far a number, but my site is not anywhere as busy as yours…Michelle

That REALLY makes me wonder what’s been going on..”suspicious”…hmmmm….that’s just disgusting that people would spam your breast cancer blogs…how can there be so many people running around this earth without souls???…Thanks for continuing to try to get my posts….I still have one problem and that is that I can’t get a lot of the posts I have checked as “daily” updates….they aren’t even showing up in my blogs I follow list…..

Great job!!! I think keeping comments open is a huge part of the blogging fun love to learn from others. I love the option of not posting a spam comment and not posting porn and stuff like that. You did it and Happy Birthday to you!

Now I’m glad to hear that… I’ve already cried on Linda’s shoulder about not being able to pull your leg.. and at other times to speak my mind… she gave me a tissue to dry my eyes (she’s good that way).. but she will be pleased that you are back… keep sending unwanted stuff to spam and let it build up till WP recognised the addresses and then delete… (excuse me while I just go and do a highland jig of happiness)

lololololololololololol poor Linda……yes….I hadn’t had spam in a long time, that had gotten through akismet anyway and when it started up…..I messed it up as per usual …..where is the chocolate..that I have to give up…that I am craving…that I found on the floor of the closet this morning….that I’m glad that hubby didn’t see and also didn’t step on…….(was this the kind of nonsense that you were going to miss?)

Whatever worked for you, I’m glad it did! I was just reading your previous post about you possibly having to close comments, and that would be awful. I also get some spam, but not an unmanageable amount. I can imagine how frustrating that would be though.

So far…NONE today…NONE!! This is a total night and day difference…unbelievable…I’m scared to talk about it..it might be too soon to tell….the spammers could all be putting on orange tutus and are getting ready to REALLY let me have it!
