THE SPAMMERS WIN?….
Well, I think I may have to throw in the towel and give up accepting comments on my site….:(

I’m getting totally bombarded with “Spam” and everything I’ve tried hasn’t stopped it….I’m spending a LOT of time clearing my site and it’s become really frustrating………I’m leaving comments open for today, your advice is appreciated very much…I’m going to miss hearing from all of you………….You can always reach me at zannyro@yahoo.com…..I’ve loved every minute of our visits…I’ll keep posting, but it won’t be the same….I’ll still hop around visiting and wish you all the very best.
Hope you get it sorted – would be a shame to quit because of spammers

It’s getting better….but today I had 300 + emails show up that had been classified as spam, a month ago!! Just showing up now?! Things are certainly messed up..

I got tired of spammers too. So unfortunately I now hold all comments for approval on my site. I hate to have it less open and I don’t block bad comments, but too much porn is arriving in my mailbox and comment box suddenly and all kinds of other mayhem. You just have to be diligent. It’s all you can do.

I’m doing the same….it is sad to have it less open….On top of spam…today 400! emails for posts showed up on my computer….they had all been labeled spam and didn’t show up anywhere! And now here they are?!

Sorry to hear about all your spam. I have had 2500 since June that WP has blocked from even reaching me. Sometimes a few get through. And I have had community bloggers in my spam in error. Please check WP support. We don’t want to lose you to spammers. You are too precious!!

I have now changed my password, trying to stop them, but I’m not getting a lot of the posts from blogs I follow, even though I have triple-checked to make sure that I’m set up to get email notices every time there’s a new post…but…no emails….I guess I can only try to fix one problem at a time …but I’m trying to keep things going…Thanks SO much for your kind words.!

WordPress is very effective catching all spam – ready to delete with a click – your experiences sound unpleasant – I do not hope spam wins over you….. I think it’s great to see, how much help you get from many nice people above. Very nice

That would be a tragedy. As people say, it should not be a hassle to manage spam. I have had more spam ones than actual ones, but WP segregates them nicely and I skim sure to reinstate the occasional legit one that winds up there, and zap the rest with one click.

I get very few spam comments on WordPress adn none of them ever get to the blog. There is one section..one button and they all get deleted. You can move you blog if you want..Michelle

I sure would hate to see the spammers win! I get a lot of spam too (237,000 so far), but Akismet weeds them out and I just do a wholesale delete of them every few days .

Sometimes I have several spam comments in a day’s time, but they’re all in my spam folder. I think the setting that requires you to approve someone’s initial comment is good advice. And e-mail the support dept at WP. Good luck – I would just stop blogging before I’d disable comments.

I had some issues with Spam a while back – I was flooded with it – I immediately marked it as spam and deleted it – deleting it was the problem. By deleting it I was deny the system the chance to learn how to detect it I guess.

I find I’m getting more spam too lately. It’s frustrating. But if you shut down your comments, the spammers will win (and we’ll miss putting our smart-alecky comments on your blog).

…..Wonder what’s up with the surge in spam?…..good news…a fellow blogger may have given me a clue as to why the spam just continues after I’ve marked it as spam….so I’m hoping her “cure” may work…

Don’t let the spammers dictate how you handle those who comment on your site. That hurts you and those whose comments you’d welcome. When the response is spam,, try changing your setting on comments to the one that requires you to approve them every time. I also close out comments to posts that are more than 3 weeks old.
After I made these changes, I had fewer instances of spam. I know others who were hit far worse than me, but it’s been much better than it was about a year ago. Good luck in resolving this.

I changed the close out on comments to 30 days, but I’ll try three weeks….Thanks for helping…..I’ve tweaked two things I hadn’t adjusted before and hopefully that will work…..

Ouch. I go through little spurts but it seems to end quickly. Do you have your comments set to approve the first time? Any spam that leaks through needs approval to be posted. And regulars only need you to approve them once. Akismet learns from this as well. You probably do this now. Just figured I’d mention it in case you don’t

Thank you for the advice…I do have things up that way…the weird thing is, I’m also not getting the posts of blogs that I follow and I’ve checked and re-checked to make sure that I have the setting done correctly, and they are….I’m baffled at this point….I can’t find anything on the wordpress site where I can contact an actual tech person at wordpress…only the community…so I’m blocked from that angle as well.

No to switch off your comments is going to destroy your blog… so much banter and comments are as a result of what one reads of other comments… some posts are improved by the comments from more knowledgeable people that will comment… Sure WP must be able to stop this… you put your comments into awaiting approval.. you can then delete them as spam… WP should then pick up that address as spam in the future… no find a way to get it fixed please… I’ll miss the banter….

What ? Don’t you have WP’s Spam Filter Akismet ?
I check Spam-box to see if any Good-comment has been
classified as Spam, otherwise I just delete them straight.

I do have it…but it’s not stopping all of the spam…I’m leaving my comments section available for today, you all have good advice…..but I’ll have to shut it down if I can’t get this solved….over a week of this going on has been really frustrating.

Good luck! I know the annoyance of spam comments as well, but almost all of them are caught by Akismet on my site.

I’m not sure why they’ve gotten by Akismet but I’ve gotten two tips today that may slow the spam down..here’s hoping!
