TREES WITH HAIR…
Yes, the title of this post is misleading..these gorgeous trees are found in the South and luckily, Venice Florida has a lot of them…..aren’t they beauties? I’ve seen some that weren’t this pretty, but there are streets that are just lined with trees covered in “Spanish Moss”, and it’s a joy to drive along and look at them.

Your thoughts fascinate me........so go on....fascinate me.

We have some of that Tillandsia usneoides in our garden – a fascinating Bromeliad. Amusing that it is native to America, and is neither moss nor Spanish. It is epiphitic, and thus certainly not a parasite on trees as some people think. No wonder it looks droopy, with all the misunderstandings about it!

Poor little Bromeliad…

When I saw your comment on my vultures tonight I could not even remember what you had posted today or for that matter if I had commented… I had to come back… Life is just so hectic at the moment with our program going out on Monday to our first customer who has agreed for a reduction in fee to beta test it for us… the work I have to do before my “baby” can fly her first flight is major and a 14 hr. day before I got to even look at blogs had me falling asleep at the computer… but all is done and ready now for her flight and the excitement is building between the 4 directors…
But I did want to come and say that the trees fascinate me… and as I love trees, specially the way mtlawleyshire depicts them, that you have done a outstanding job here as well… is there anything you can’t take good photos of… Ah I know one… you in a tutu…. go well my friend enjoy your weekend…

Some day perhaps, me in a tutu…maybe for a milestone birthday
SO EXCITING ABOUT YOUR “BABY”…keep me posted and congrats!, congrats!, congrats!

Great photos of what is probably my favorite tree. So surreal, relaxing to look at and still arresting visually, perhaps because of how the moss grows in total abandon.

Yes, the hair on the trees is beautiful and there are some great views on the streets of Savannah and St. Simmons Island. But, be aware of the tiny mites that live on the Spanish moss.

Ooooooohh…I never get close, I’m suspicious of ALL the vegetation and what lives in it when I’m in the South.

They are lovely. They look like a fairy wonderland.
February 15, 2013 at 1:12 pm
They really do….when there are lots of them together, say 30-50 it’s REALLY like a fairy wonderland…..you could make an awesome movie set in surroundings like this.

We had two in our yard in south Louisiana. I always wondered their age. They were majestic. Beautiful pictures. Brought back great memories.

I grew up in Louisiana, and now that I live in the north (Great Lake region), I truly miss the moss covered trees. Beautiful photos.

We saw trees like this in South Carolina. They’re really cool. Have you ever tried to photograph them as it is getting dark at night. That might lead to some creepy photos
.
