BLACK HORSE…

Did any of you out there ever read Walter Farley’s book “The Black Stallion”?……It became a great movie also….I LOVED this book when I read it many years ago, I own a copy still…..Well I photographed this horse last week…just took a few shots….but the same day I met a woman who actually knew Walter Farley, grew up with his family as family friends….little did I know that after the success of this first book, Walter Farley purchased a beach house in Venice!

So here’s a nod to the wonderful book, “The Black Stallion” and a love for horses…

Once again, no idea why it’s putting some of the code or tech jargon on here, but if I delete it I lose the image…so we’ll suffer together..

  2. You captured the essence of this magnificent soul–his eyes. I’m sure the rest of him is marvelous, but there is something about his eyes that tells his whole story.

  3. No doubt The Black Stallion would have been banned in Apartheid South Africa as was Black Beauty. They were good at misconstruing things!

  5. “The Black Stallion” and “Black Beauty” were favourites as a kid. I longed to ride them in slow motion with the wind blowing through my hair. You know in that romanticized way that you can only imagine from a book. ;-)

  7. I read nearly all of Farley’s horse books, and any Marguerite Henry I could get my hands on! Still have a lot of them tucked away somewhere! Always wanted a horse, never got one :(

    • He wrote a LOT of books didn’t he?! I love horses, but having watched my Grandparents raise them, I know that I don’t have the commitment required….HOWEVER…if we were talking about Bob and the herd that I wrote my book about….I would find a way to care for them….:)

  8. I loved The Black Stallion, too! I am quite sure I still have my copy, too! But what I really wanted growing up was a REAL horse. What a lovely, intimate photo.

  10. Was there a white rail fence beside this horse? I clicked to enlarge the picture and looked in the reflection of his eye.

    • Such a WONDERFUL story…..when my Grandmother passed away…..(She and my Grandfather had raised Arabian horses my whole life)…I was allowed to pick a book that I wanted…..another wonderful book was “And Miles To Go”…and that was the book I chose…I can’t remember the Author….I should look that up…just wonderful..

  13. You’re all about the closeup eye shots today!

Check the code. On the of the line should be something starting with . At the end of the line should be the same test after the /.
If you see text missing, fill that in and the jargon should go away.

    February 5, 2013 at 12:14 am

    • gah – should be “”, without the quotes.

      February 5, 2013 at 12:14 am

      • oh for goodness sake!
Keyboard character above the comma, TEXT, keyboard character above the period.
