I CAN NEVER CUT THIS TREE DOWN…
This poor ash tree died two years ago, but it’s an escape route, sunbathing spot, and favorite “look-out” spot for a LOT of squirrels….I guess it’s just going to have to fall down on it’s own….I don’t have the heart to take it away from them…

Your thoughts fascinate me........so go on....fascinate me.
This is wonderful: composition, color, texture, processing and title.
That’s without even mentioning your precious subject.

Thank you for your kind comments
Precious is a very good word!

In Australia, dead trees, trees with hollows, old stunps, are absilutely vital to the survival of so many of our native birds& animals. I hate the thought of any tree being removed – dead they are scultpurally beautiful & support so much life, alive they are simply beautiful, reflecting seasons, and support so much life… let it stand for as long as it wants to, and when it falls – it will still create homes.
Lovely photo – as always

It has a home for as long as it wants

I have an ash tree and I am dreading spring…the ash die back is in my area. My tree has been around for years and years…fighting pollution…a home for the birds..I won’t know until the leaf buds out…I don’t even want to go there…..

I understand completely!
February 2, 2013 at 3:17 pm

February 5, 2013 at 6:53 pm

February 5, 2013 at 7:01 pm
Love the photos! They are simply stunning!
February 5, 2013 at 7:08 pm
Awwwww.Thanks!
February 5, 2013 at 7:25 pm
This is very much like the tree I spent so much time sat in, photographing last year’s north marsh fox cubs. Whilst your image is excellent, Suzanne, it does bring back uncomfortable memories.
January 31, 2013 at 9:07 am
Hahahahaaha……the image COULD be better…the tree is some distance from my window….but thank you for the laugh….ouch….I can’t imagine sitting or perching in a tree like this for long! You are a truly committed artist, suffering for your work.

I’ll say this every day to “tree”..
January 31, 2013 at 2:37 pm
The color of this squirrel is outrageous!
January 31, 2013 at 1:07 am
Isn’t their color awesome ?! They have the most beautiful coats!

LOL! I’m glad that you like him so much
January 31, 2013 at 2:42 pm
Great photo!!!!
January 30, 2013 at 10:39 pm
Thank you!
January 30, 2013 at 10:45 pm
HAHAHA He looks stuck! lol
January 30, 2013 at 7:48 pm
Wedged in there real tight isn’t he??
January 30, 2013 at 8:31 pm
Cute Capture:) My dad would leave dead trees up on the farm for the insects and critters unless it was close to a structure then it came down. Happy Hump Day!
January 30, 2013 at 6:42 pm
I like the way your Dad thinks! We have 4 1/2 acres full of trees that are healthy, broken branches and trees on the ground that Mother nature put there….I wouldn’t have it any other way
January 30, 2013 at 6:48 pm
This plump little guy is clearly on the look out for lumberjacks wielding chain saws.
Beautiful photograph!
January 30, 2013 at 4:58 pm
Maybe the little squirrel remembers the time that the lumberjack DID come a couple of years ago and cut down a few trees…..maybe the little squirrel has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and looking for revenge….aaaaaggghhhhh!!!
January 30, 2013 at 6:49 pm
PS That photo is SO cute!
January 30, 2013 at 4:53 pm
We have some old snags that the pileated woodpeckers visit so I know the feeling. If we got rid of them, the woodpeckers might fly in to land on it for breakfast one day and fall on the ground because we’d removed their table and chair.
January 30, 2013 at 4:52 pm
Can you imagine the poor woodpecker…”let’s see…do I have my cup of coffee?..yes…do I have my newspaper..yes…good now I can sit down and ….eeeyyahhhhhh!!! My table and chairs are gone!”
January 30, 2013 at 6:51 pm
what an adorable little fellow.. for him alone, I would also leave the tree where it is..
January 30, 2013 at 4:42 pm
Isn’t he just a little cutie?
January 30, 2013 at 6:51 pm
That tree does for the squirrel what “Spanks” does for women’s butts!
January 30, 2013 at 4:14 pm
Hmmmmmm…do you think squirrels run around saying “does this tree make my butt look fat?”
January 30, 2013 at 6:52 pm
No, probably not. But they may say, do I look sexy in this tree?
January 30, 2013 at 7:01 pm
hehehehe!
January 30, 2013 at 7:14 pm
I would feel exactly the same way!

January 30, 2013 at 6:52 pm
Well done on leaving as is. The experts point out how much of Nature at work is inhibited by the human passion for clearing dead stumps and branches instead of leaving them to do their thing for the ecology.
January 30, 2013 at 3:34 pm
We have about 4 1/2 acres of woods that are “wildlife tested and Mother Nature approved”….tree wise, anything that dies or falls onto the ground is left where it fell….
January 30, 2013 at 6:53 pm
I understand
January 30, 2013 at 2:12 pm
January 30, 2013 at 6:54 pm
It’s hard to let go.
January 30, 2013 at 2:10 pm
sigh…so true…
January 30, 2013 at 6:54 pm
Amazing!.. stunning!… congrats for a well done shot
January 30, 2013 at 1:57 pm
Thank you! I hope to catch more cute moments like this..
January 30, 2013 at 6:54 pm
I am really so amazed by this photo, can’t imagine how patiently you are till you capture a perfect action.
January 31, 2013 at 12:26 am
I call myself “the waiter”….I wait, and I wait……:)
January 31, 2013 at 2:42 pm
Oh that’s gorgeous!
January 30, 2013 at 1:21 pm
Thanks so much!!
January 30, 2013 at 6:55 pm
Geez I am dying over this photo..
That little Fox Squirrel’s feets and hands are killing me! I love those little Fox Squirrels. Our little Suzy has a mate I believe..
Very very cool picture! And yeah you can’t cut down the tree..
January 30, 2013 at 12:57 pm
The little boyfriend has arrived
…..the tree will have to drop it’s branches…(they are getting brittle, it’s an ash tree and has died)…I’m not cutting ANYTHING on this tree…
January 30, 2013 at 6:56 pm
It would be a shame to leave my buddy there without his look-out spot, so… if it is not bothering anyone and if it isn’t a risk for anybody…
January 30, 2013 at 12:13 pm
This is a tree that can’t hurt anything if it falls…except for the little apple trees that I planted last year…it’s staying put for as long as Mother Nature will allow.
January 30, 2013 at 6:57 pm
I wouldn’t want to either Suzanne. And it is a perfect place for you to look at for some squirrel watching
January 30, 2013 at 12:12 pm
The cute little raccoons also use this tree a lot…..the tree is dead…it fell victim to the same thing all of the other ash trees did….and it drops branches from time to time…but I’ll keep it up as long as I can
January 30, 2013 at 6:58 pm
I think you’ve made a wise decision, Suzanne. You don’t want those Ninja squirrels coming after you.
January 30, 2013 at 12:00 pm
Oh Lord…now I’m going to have Ninja squirrel nightmares!!
January 30, 2013 at 6:59 pm
Oh, he’s just sooooo chubby and cute. This shot just makes me grin from ear to ear
.
January 30, 2013 at 11:48 am
YAY!! Love it when I get you grinning!
January 30, 2013 at 7:00 pm
That is a sweet picture; he’s just posing for you!
January 30, 2013 at 11:46 am
It even looks like he combed his fur for the occasion!
January 30, 2013 at 7:00 pm
Fella’s under surveillance by tree’s left eye. Big Brother even in the forest ?
January 30, 2013 at 11:31 am
Now that’s a scary thought…Big Brother in the forest!!
January 30, 2013 at 7:01 pm
How darn cute is that… do not cut the tree down, look what you would do to that little fellow… he almost looks as though he is begging you not to… what a magnificent photo as usual .. beginning to sound like a stuck record… go on post a real dud, just so we have to think of something pleasant to say about a crappy photo…
Hey there’s an idea… maybe we should hold a photo contest for the duds we take and all decide on which is the worst…
January 30, 2013 at 11:26 am
I LOVE your idea!! O.K….you organize this and tell us all what to do……FUN, FUN, FUN!!
