THE LONG RIDE HOME…

My trip home was something else….notice the foggy conditions in the first image? I was supposed to depart at 5:30 a.m on Monday morning….at 2:30 a.m., I got a call from my husband saying that my flight had been delayed until 1:30 p.m……Since I was already up and dressed
I decided to go to the airport to make sure my new schedule would work…

Turns out I was going to miss all of my connections…and I wouldn’t be able to get home until WEDNESDAY!!! Considering the fact that I was supposed to fly to Florida on Thursday, it was a little disconcerting to think that fog could mess up my flight again on Wednesday….

The wonderful people at Delta airlines worked and worked and finally came up with a plan to get me to Indianapolis by 10:30 Monday night….but hubby would have to drive two hours there to pick me up and then we would have to drive two hours back home…..temp. around 0 degrees and an even lower windchill…..we arrived home at 1 a.m…..by the time I went to bed I had been up 23 hours…

The good part…Delta flew me back first class on the three hour leg of the trip! Sometimes it pays to be very calm and nice when things aren’t going well…..the last image is of the mountains surrounding the airport in Salt Lake City Utah… no matter the difficulties, it was the best, after all, after almost two years of not seeing my son and daughter-in-law..I’d do it all again in a heartbeat!

  2. You have a good husband.
‘Drive four hours in THIS? Tell ya what, honey, you stay there until summer …’ :)

    • I do have a great husband! :)

  3. Glad to hear you made it back home. I find calm works best in these situations too because the airlines are working with you and trying to get you home – have no real control over the weather or mechanical issues at times. Happy Tuesday:)

  4. A little bit of honey sometimes gets you farther than screaming and yelling. I’m glad things worked out well for you.

    January 29, 2013 at 2:49 pm

    • Thanks so much! Things worked out a lot better than I thought they would…and yes, the honey can work wonders!

    • It was awesome! So much ROOM for your legs and arms!! And they feed you and offer you drinks….nice to get a chance to be so pampered!

  8. I’m really glad you had such a nice visit :) . My son is only 1 1/2 hours away at college, but I miss him terribly, and I am so excited because we are going to see him this weekend. The excuse – we have to take him and his girlfriend Mike’s homemade chilli because all Bryan is eating at college is frozen pizza pockets LOL :) .

    January 29, 2013 at 11:55 am

    • LOLOLOL! I’ll bet he’s SO excited about the chili!….after this child went so far away, we told our twins they had to pick a college in our state for the first year…they were SO mad, lololol! Have a wonderful time with him,,hug him tight Mama!

  9. Oh, two years of separation? That’s really hard. I am sure you had a good visit, and traveling just has complications this time of year. You took gorgeous photos no matter despite the traveling blues! :-)

    January 29, 2013 at 6:00 am

    • Thank you!….we won’t let so much time pass in the future :)

  10. I love the photo taken from the air.. those mountains look incredible.. Not seeing your Son and DIL for 2 years is too long… you need to forget about the sharks teeth on the beach and get up to son more often… I love this blog.. and some how just love the friendship I’ve made here… Thank you Suzanne…

    January 29, 2013 at 5:04 am

    • Awwwww..Thank you Bulldog…love the friendship I’ve made here too!! Definitely plan to see Son and DIL
more often…………dealing with the economic downturn we’ve endured for the last couple of years, required hubby to pour every ounce of mental focus into managing the business, and his one place of solace is by the water….so coming to Florida for quick little trips, helped him recharge his batteries…frustrating though… after going through four to five years of this, his blood pressure has sky-rocketed recently…still enormous amounts of stress…but I’m packing him off to Montana in April and he’s happy and excited to go! I will “man the fort” on the homefront while he’s out there.

      • Know exactly what you mean… I’ve had no income for the last year.. but have a computer program I designed encoded for me.. reaching the end now.. but the tough times have hit our pocket hard.. and we have put everything into this program selling world wide and being a success… if it doesn’t at my age there is no turning back.. too old to find a job in my line again.. so it has been a bit stressful, and hard work writing manuals help files and testing the program modules as they have been completed… yet there is good interest in the program and it has to be a success.. I know it will be… there is no other program like it in the world.. but one must never stop the R and R, it is a necessary part of life and success… hope things get to a stage again that you can both go together…
This is why I love this blogging it does take my mind off the difficult times..

        January 29, 2013 at 2:27 pm

        • I just know that your program is going to be a success.!
Sorry to hear that you’ve been affected by upheaval of the economy too…….my husband is the third generation to run this company, and he doesn’t want to be the stereotypical case of the third generation letting the company fail…….aside from the need to have an income…you two would probably have a lot in common and a good understanding of each other in this area…….I’m glad that the blogging helps you…I wish he had an outlet like this…..just remember, we’re all behind you and we’ll cheer the day when we can say that we knew you BEFORE you became the ruler of your business empire.

  12. I’ll be so glad when this horrible weather is over!

    January 29, 2013 at 4:22 am

    • I hope that we’re nearing the half way point…ours has not been as bad as yours….of course! We did get a little of your “arctic air” last week…..I don’t know how you do it!

      January 29, 2013 at 2:19 pm

      • Living on the coast, it’s not as bad as the interior of the province, but still, you get tired of that raw damp cold. I’m ready for spring!

        January 30, 2013 at 2:28 am

  13. I must remember to stay calm under adverse conditions. You are a great inspiration!

    January 29, 2013 at 3:26 am

    • Thanks! I noticed that the man next to me trying to get his flight schedule changed was getting irate and the person helping him was advising him to call DELTA and see what he could come up with….not as much cooperation going on there……
