AND THERE WAS MAGIC….TWO….

Today was one of those perfect fall days….warm….golden….good for the soul.

I was lucky enough to spend several hours with “The Boys”….I love it when I get the chance to “sneak up” on them… they are so surprised to find me back in the woods….coming to pay a visit.

  3. Well, there was certainly no, ‘Oh, ho-hum, you again,’ about that greeting!

    October 28, 2012 at 9:14 pm

    • That’s the truth!!

      October 28, 2012 at 9:18 pm

  5. Awww … we could never tire of you and the boys! What beautiful shots. I hope you frame some of these.

    October 28, 2012 at 3:15 am

    • I’m glad that you feel that way… :) ….I think I’ll have to frame some some of these…….I used an image of two of the horses at my last Art thingy and it was done as a 3×4 foot canvas gallery wrap….two weeks later…today… I got a call and SOLD…..these horses seem to cast a spell on people :)

      October 29, 2012 at 2:17 am

      • Wow! That’s great to hear. They do cast a spell and it’s something that’s good for the heart. They’re lovely creatures and I hope you go tell them that you made a sale. They will smile.

        October 29, 2012 at 3:25 am

        • Ha! I get to go tell Melvin tomorrow…the buyer asked that I let him know :) I’ll tell the horses too!

          October 29, 2012 at 3:37 am

  6. The photos of the horses are just wonderful on their own, of course, but I really enjoyed the composition with those dead, dry trees in the background. Very special!

    October 28, 2012 at 12:52 am

    • Thank you! I really wanted that tree in the background….before a “derrecho” destroyed it, I spent time this spring watching a blue bird flit from branch to branch…

      October 28, 2012 at 12:57 am

  7. They are gorgeous! I love these photographs, thanks for sharing :)

    October 27, 2012 at 9:49 am

    • Thank you! I’m always worried that everyone will get tired of seeing the horses :)

      October 27, 2012 at 1:39 pm

  8. I love that first shot when they are rushing to see you – sweet.

    October 26, 2012 at 1:36 pm

  11. And I wonder if you take them treats too! Meanwhile, the weather is a changin’ for us.

    October 26, 2012 at 12:25 pm

    • Frank!!! Thank you SO much! Mr. Ed looks a LOT ilke Bob!!!! I did take them apples yesterday. The mares, that I don’t really put on the blog, loved them..and among the geldings…Bob is the big-time apple lover! :)

      October 26, 2012 at 12:56 pm

      • … and we thought they loved the camera … they want the apples! :)

        October 26, 2012 at 12:58 pm

        • LOL! This is really the first time I’ve taken them apples….I watched the reporter who interviewed Melvin take them some and they loved it…….when I did it..only Bob really ate any, LOL! It’s kind of a joke between Melvin and myself….doesn’t matter what I do….they give me plenty of space and aren’t too thrilled with me…I think it’s the “clicking” of the camera…it spooks them a little……

          October 26, 2012 at 1:07 pm

          • Best part is that you get a lot of joys with your visits.

            October 26, 2012 at 1:09 pm

            • Most definitely!….They make me laugh :)

              October 26, 2012 at 1:10 pm

  12. What gorgeous shots, Suzanne. You are so blessed. :)

    October 26, 2012 at 12:17 pm

    • I really was blessed the day that I knocked on Melvin’s door…..yesterday..another blessing…just the totally right combination of beautiful weather, beautiful horses, and a great visit with Melvin…………………Now….are you feeling the effects of “Sandy”?…Thank God that she is going to spare you the worst of it…

      October 26, 2012 at 12:58 pm

      • Just grey and rainy at the moment. I’d give up my chocolate ration for the day, just to see a glimpse of sunshine. :)

        October 26, 2012 at 1:20 pm

        • I feel kind of fortunate that we were able to end our visit with a day of sunshine…the whole week was beautiful actually…but I’m sure you’ll clear up soon!! Never give up the chocolate!!!!

          October 26, 2012 at 1:26 pm

  13. Absolutely stunning. You are so lucky to have spent time with them.

    October 26, 2012 at 11:05 am

    • Thanks :) ….I just love my time with them….I know I’ll cherish it forever.

      October 26, 2012 at 12:58 pm

  14. How do you get them to make such beautiful poses for you… I was in Kathu horse club with 40 odd horses.. I couldn’t make a capture like this…. they wouldn’t co-operate at all…

    October 26, 2012 at 10:48 am

    • They do it all by themselves, lol…..I think Joe, the head of the herd, far left, second photo is responsible…he kind of herds them all up when he’s not sure about who’s approaching and then he runs them around a bit to get a good look……They usually spot me from a distance off, as I walk back to the woods through the pasture…I’m not sure how good their eyesight is, so their on alert until they know it’s me………were the horses at the Kathu horse club out together in a herd? It could be that the horses there get a lot of visitors and therefore don’t get as anxious.

      October 26, 2012 at 1:03 pm

      • They are in stalls in the morning and in the afternoon they let them out to roam free… all they did was run away from me… or turn their backs…. could not get a nice capture anything like yours…

        October 26, 2012 at 1:30 pm

        • I think if you had had enough time to spend studying their behavior..you would have gotten amazing shots…..look at what you did with the lipizzaner stallions :)

          October 26, 2012 at 9:00 pm

  15. They are so beautiful, I can see the wind of them… Thank you dear Suzanne, love, nia

    October 26, 2012 at 10:14 am

    • I’m glad that you liked the images nia…we had a pretty windy day, i love that because it blows their mane and tails around :)

      October 26, 2012 at 1:04 pm

  16. Zanny I’ve been wanting to ask for ages, what breed are they? I love palominos!

    October 26, 2012 at 7:28 am

    • I was going to add this as a “tag’ today….they are Haflingers!

      October 26, 2012 at 1:04 pm

    October 26, 2012 at 6:44 am

    • Thanks Hope!! That’s my favorite too!

      October 26, 2012 at 1:05 pm

  18. Will they stay out in the woods all winter? What idyllic shots of those wonderful animals – the vitality, and pleasure they have in being alive … :)

    October 26, 2012 at 3:50 am

    • They do stay out in winter….They are put into a barn at night, but they spend most of the days outside.

      October 26, 2012 at 3:52 am

      • How wonderful for them to be living so freely – and pampered a bit too. Your friend – their owner – must be some guy.

        October 26, 2012 at 4:08 am

        • He is so wonderful…He will be 85 this December and I’ve been very lucky to have become his friend.

          October 26, 2012 at 4:09 am

          • Sounds like it – I miss the wisdom and company of older people now my parents and their friends have all gone.

            October 26, 2012 at 4:32 am

            • I have only my Mother now, Melvin has been like being given my Grandfather back in some ways.

              October 26, 2012 at 4:34 am

              • Lucky you :)

                October 27, 2012 at 2:25 pm

                • I feel lucky,,,but it worries me that it won’t last long…got all teary about it last night..

                  October 27, 2012 at 2:50 pm

                  • Oh dear, I’m sorry … but dear you must rejoice in what you have now, not grieve for what will happen in the future – and that future will come, every day we have with older people is a special gift.

I was blessed to be able to care for my parents for the last ten hers of their lives. When I began, Papa was 90, Ma 86, none of us expected we would have ten years together. It was a roller coaster ride sometimes – heart in mouth scary – but every day I was amazed at what a gift it was, still is :)

                    October 27, 2012 at 3:45 pm

                    • :) ….so glad that you had them for so long! You are so right, every day is a gift:) :)

                      October 27, 2012 at 3:49 pm

                    • :)
